I grew up in Davis, CA and I moved to Traverse City when I was 19. It took me a few years, but I truly fell in love with the natural beauty here and in my spare time I very much enjoy mountain biking or hiking with my partner Landon and our pack of dogs. I have worked in many industries and lived many lives. I jokingly refer to myself as a Jill of all trades.
I’ve worked all positions in a restaurant and I’ll still argue hostessing is the hardest! I’ve taken a few sabbaticals from hospitality, some of those gigs included childcare, eldercare, painting houses. I’ve assisted in many small food biz start ups, and helped set up wholesale accounts. I've managed horse farms, I’ve bagged groceries, I sold cutco knives in high school. I have always gravitated back to the simplicity of food. In a constantly shifting world, to me, food is a common ground. I love that we know most of our guests by name and their orders by heart, it grounds me.
I love managing a team of people and the opportunity they each give me to love and treat them like family.
Ames At. Cafe began because I saw a need in the small community of Elk Rapids for a restaurant with healthier options and an elevated dining experience. I had worked for other people my entire life and it was time for me to start something on my own. However, I soon realized that I was anything but alone.
When they say, "it takes a village," they mean it. My village is my family- KJ and Landen. We have put our heart and soul into the cafe to best serve the community here in Elk Rapids and we look forward to seeing their faces walk through our doors each day.
It's been a gradual, but intentional shift from traditional or greasy spoon breakfast to a more locally-sourced and nourishing menu and it's been an honor to watch our customers face light up when they fall in love with a new dish. We look forward to you becoming part of our community and serving you.
The atmosphere is warm and welcoming. The staff is very friendly and treats you like family. My wife loved the eggs benedict and my three egg omelet was absolutely delicious. Customer service is tip of the spear. Take it from an old Marine Veteran, you will love Ames St Cafe.
Love love LOVE! Elk rapids needed a brunch place like this. Their breakfast and lunch is great. I love their BLT, french toast, and honestly any of their baked goods. They also have great service and are on honest with you about when tables will be open.
By far, it's one of my absolute favorite places to eat! You can't beat a meal that is from scratch with farm fresh ingredients! So much love is put into the food here, and you can tell. One of my favorite things is how much the staff love working here, it's not uncommon to over hear them thanking each other and offering to help. That kind of family atmosphere makes everyone feel welcome! Come as you are! The food is out of this world A-mazing!
We loved Allie's food truck and were thrilled when she decided to open Ames St Cafe! Her food is creative, cozy, and made with love. I have loved every dish I've ordered and I dream about the focaccia bread—the BEST. She is always so patient and thorough when answering food allergy questions and so mindful in her offerings for unique dietary needs. How lucky our little village is to have Ames St Cafe. THANK YOU, Allie!
